Hey, Wayne ... can you two just get a room or something?

Apparently, Blogging Tory Wayne has himself a brand new, raging man-crush on one Ralph Peters, and he's not ashamed to tell the world. Here. And here. And here.

Now, for those of you who have been paying attention recently, that would be the same military expert Ralph Peters who was incapable of reading recruiting and enlistment figures properly. And the Ralph Peters wingnuttery doesn't end there.

The Poor Man certainly knows dumbassitude when he sees it while, just last week, "Blue Girl" ... well, let's let her tell it her own way:

Our first Wurlitzer Prize™ is awarded to Ralph Peters of the New York Post for his ridiculous claim that al Qaeda targeted two Yazidi communities in the northwest Sinjar Province because they are losing and they are desperate, and the worst attack of the war to date is actually good news. If Ralph Peters was an amusement park attraction, you would have to be "this tall" to ride, he spins so furiously.

The foreign terrorists slaughtering the innocent recognize that their only remaining hope of pulling off a come-from-way-behind win is to convince your senator and your congressman or -woman that it's politically expedient to hand a default victory to a defeated al Qaeda.

First of all, there is no definitive proof that al Qaeda had anything to do with it, and no group has claimed credit for the devastation. Second, there was no al Qaeda in Iraq before Resident Evil™ opted to invade, and there will be no al Qaeda presence after we leave. The Iraqis have an aversion to all foreign fighters in their midst, not just coalition forces. The foreign militants will be slaughtered, or forced to flee on the heels of an American withdrawal. The ridiculous meme that Peters is pushing is merely cranking up the Mighty Wurlitzer to set the stage for the inevitable “liberals stabbed the military in the back” trope that they trotted out after Vietnam, and some are still embracing. It’s utter nonsense, of course, but it worked the last time, so they are set to dust it off once more, because it’s all they’ve got, after having been proven wrong, wronger, wrongest at every single turn. And besides all that, his man-crush on General Petraeus is just creepy.

It's one thing to be a fan. But you have to know where to draw the line; otherwise, well, things just get kind of creepy:

The October 2003 issue of Vanity Fair (which has returned to earth since featuring the Bush administration as stalwart mannequins) includes James Wolcott’s hilarious commentary on the hubbub over Bush’s basket. Saying that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews "gets as gaga as Andrew Sullivan and frequent guest Peggy Noonan over that hickory-smoked hunk of masculinity, George W. Bush," Wolcott wrote:

"One of the more cringe-inducing TV moments in recent memory was Matthews and G. Gordon Liddy sprouting rhetorical woodies over the spectacle of Bush on the carrier deck in his flight suit, his parachute harness showcasing the presidential bulge -- or, to use Liddy’s inimitable phrase, "his manly characteristic." One guy to another, Liddy put Matthews wise. "You know, all those women who say size doesn’t count, they’re all liars. Check that out."

Matthews: "And I’ve got to say why do the Democrats, as you say, want to keep advertising this guy’s greatest moment?"

Liddy: "Look, he’s coming across as a, well, as women would call in my show saying, what a stud. . ."

"To borrow a line from the late critic Marvin Mudrick, the two of them should take a cold shower, preferably not together."

And I'm guessing Wayne isn't far from cold shower territory as it is.

Considering most of his posts consist of nothing but quotes from the great and the good, I’m thinking we’re not looking at the deep-end of the pool here. Perhaps he never even bothers to read let alone think about, the articles he links to.
